We have casual and long term work available for locum doctors throughout Australia in Public and Private Hospitals and GP practices. If you have full medical registration with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) then you can locum anywhere in Australia.

In Australia, you should have your own medical indemnity whether you are working in Private or Public hospitals. You will need to discuss with your medical indemnity provider what level of cover is required for your specialty and type of work.

Hourly rates vary between shifts and are quoted at the time they are advertised. Rates can range from approx. $80 per hour to $150 per hour depending on level of experience and the urgency with which the hospital needs to fill the shift. Crisis rates may be higher, and our locums are promptly notified when these are available.

This depends on the hospital, but most commonly either:
(a) ABN- the locum is employed as a contractor, so an invoice needs to be submitted once you have completed your shift. At BPML, we do this for you.
(b) PAYE- the locum is an employee of the hospital and is required to fill out Tax file declaration, bank account details etc and submit this through HR department. You must fill out a timesheet and then submit this to HR or medical administration. You will be paid by EFT in the hospitals next fortnightly pay cycle. We will let you know of the appropriate procedures when your shift is confirmed.

The number of shifts and when you do them is completely up to you. That’s the great thing about being a locum with us. You can also let us know when you are looking for blocks of work and we can keep an eye out for you and send you shifts that we think you may be interested in.
